New DC Comics Stuff at The SM Store

Remember this post? Well, this is what it's all about.

The SM Store and Pacific Licensing Studio recently unveiled Justice League: Heroes United @ The SM Store. This store-wide program will feature merchandise designs based on characters from DC's New 52. For those not in the know, the New 52 is the current, rebooted universe of DC Comics, where our favorite characters all got a fresh start that included new looks and character biographies. So don't be surprised to see Superman without his trademark red briefs-- he's finally learned the proper way of wearing one is in his pants.

The Legends & Villains Art Exhibit

Going through folders and folders of my image files last night made me realize I have a lot of stuff I've forgotten about. I found this set of photos in a folder from the 2008 folder. The Legends & Villains art exhibit happened back in March of 2008 and was jointly presented by the Ricco Renzo Gallery and SM City North Edsa. The exhibit featured various superheroes and super villains done by several local artist and ran from March 1 to 8.

I chanced upon the exhibit when I went there to have lunch with my mom and a friend of mine. Here are some pics of the pieces on display.

A Giant Green Lantern Plops Down Outside Glorietta

The giant Green Lantern Logo @ Glorietta

I'm not a huge Green Lantern fan, but seeing this humongous thing made want to recite the oath. Problem is, I don't have it memorized! LOL.

Still, the geek in me is very much excited to watch the Green Lantern on the big screen next week. Speaking of big screens, I saw Thor (in 3D) and X-men First Class. I'll reserve talking about those two for another post. This huge lantern, by the way, is surrounded by small square lanterns that are hanging on tree branches all though out the small park at Glorietta.

Now if only they did something like this for X-men First Class....

DC Comics Chuck Taylors!

Here's one more reason to love the good ol' Chuck Taylor. DC Comics has teamed up with Converse and released Chuck Taylor All Star Highs with designs bearing some of our favorite DC characters. These came out I think this month, but the DC folks who manned the booth at the recent SDCC I've learned wore these. I missed out on that bit of info and actually learned about them from  Jim Lee's Twitter.

There are 5 designs in all: 2 Batman designs; 2 Superman and 1 Green Lantern. I hope these become available here in the Philippines because I sure as hell want one! Or two. Okay fine I WANT THEM ALL!

More photos after the jump.

This 2010, DC Comics  commemorates 75 years of world-renowned comic book characters and their adventures with consumer events and new film, television and DVD content releasing throughout the year.

This world-wide celebration of such a momentous event is so fitting for a giant like DC. Through out the years,  DC Comics characters have inspired blockbuster movies, classic television shows, engaging video games, exciting theme park attractions, and an array of consumer products for fans of all ages, worldwide. These are the characters that have shaped our notion of heroes, and created a modern mythology for every generation, across all media.

As part of its 75th year celebration, DC Comics invites everyone to join the DC Comics 75th Year Power Up! Super Heroes Challenge this June 19 and 20 at the SM Mega Mall Events Center. The activity camp will feature extreme outdoor activities, which will be set up indoors for the first time in its scale. This Father’s Day weekend, kids and parents alike can bring out the superhero in themselves through activities such as the Tyrolean Traverse, Two-Line Tight Rope, and the Zip Line.

The camp site will also feature a DC Comics Mini Museum where limited edition and toy collections from DC Comics, Toy Kingdom, collectors and fans will be on display. Everyone can expect an array of Batman, Superman, and Justice League toys and figurines.

To register, simply buy PhP500 worth of DC Comics products from the SM Department Store Character Shop and Boys Teens Wear departments between May 22 to June 20, 2010 to get a free DC Comics 75th Year bag tag. Use this as your event pass on June 19 and 20, to register at the DC Comics 75th Year Power Up! Super Heroes Challenge in the SM Megamall Building A Events Center. One bag tag entitles one participant to go through the course once.

You may also present any Batman or Superman personal care product by Master Kids at the registration booth to claim one bag tag to use as an entry pass to the DC Comics 75th Year Power Up! Super Heroes Challenge.

DC Comics 75th Anniversary will be the main theme of this year’s Toy Convention to be held on June 19 and 20 at the SM Mega Trade Halls 2 and 3. This year’s Toy Convention will include DC Comics- themed competitions and activities. Everyone is invited to come in a superhero or comic book character costume as Collectors Unlimited will attempt to gather the most number of people in superhero costumes in one location.

DC Comics is inviting Filipino comics artists who have rendered work for DC Comics to autograph your DC Comics collectibles in the Toy Convention and Toy Kingdom, SM Megamall. There will also be a special auction of limited edition DC Comics Encyclopedias to participants who purchase DC Comics licensed products from the DC Comics booth in the Toy Convention.
